Housing regeneration in 1935. Stepney's Limehouse Fields, east London, UK.
Documentary regarding housing regeneration in Stepney in the 1930s. Many of these 1930s blocks were removed during the current regeneration of Stepney that has been ongoing for the last 17 years. The 'interviews' are an original contruction for documentaries that came out of the GPO documentary section. The idea that the person being interviewed should just talk straight to the camera was the idea of a woman. I will try to find out who she was. The Gas Holders in the background in the opening shot indicates the Stepney Gas Company holders along Ben Jonson Road, They were removed during the clean-up of the site and eventual conversion to domestic housing from industrial use.
