John Deere 400 Front PTO System

That's an impressive following for a 44-year-old garden tractor. So let me get to work so I can finish up this John Deere asap. When I look at all the parts laid out on the table, I always think of topics and videos I can share with you all. Today's video will be dedicated to the front PTO mechanism. This system is very simple as it allows the two belts to be lose or put under tension, by pushing the hand lever forward. All the components I mount in the first part are more or less safety shrouds, but they must be installed or else I would have not been able to assemble the cable to the hand lever. When I installed and adjusted the PTO mechanism everything seemed to work flawlessly as all the parts were undamaged and/or fixed beforehand. Once the front end was all bolted up I had to stand back and understand if this John Deere is really green or black?! Currently, this machine is probably 80% black and just some parts have been painted in other colors. Quite interesting what hides behind the panels at the end of the day! After working around the Instrumental Panel, I gave share insight on how to check hydraulic pressure on the rear end of this John deere 400. The Sundstrand Series 15 has certain set screws which can be removed to check for operating pressure in the system and charge-pump area. For this, you will need a 1000PSI gauge and a 5000PSI gauge to do testing. The manufacturer recommends MAX 3000PSI in the system and 500-800PSI at the charge pump.
