The Case for Realism | Episode 9

Anyone who follows Dr. Jacobs' work, (on YoutTube, Substack, or academic), knows that he is a realist. That is to say, when why the mind looks out into the world and sees structures of genera, species, and common properties, he believes the mind does this because those structures are real. They are in some way part of the fabric of reality. The view, of course, contrasts with that of the nomialist who believes such structures are mental fictions or names (hence “nominalism” from the Latin nomen) that we impose on a world void of such structures. What you'll hear from Dr. Jacobs today is the fact that there was a time when he was a hard nosed nominalist.
