3 November 2025, Nanjing. Leaving the mountain dwelling at Caotang, three transport modes in succession—car, on foot, subway—to Nanjing South Station. Then from Nanjing South Station to Wuhan Station. Immersive experience of Nanjing‘s morning rush. ——— Caotang, a small village hidden in the hills south of Nanjing. It lies in Moling Subdistrict, Jiangning District; local records mention a “Caotang Group”. Beer Brother had rented a farmhouse here and turned it into a mountain retreat. Setting out at dawn, the scenery outside the car window shifts from hills and village to wide roads and office towers. Zhengfang Zhonglu, an elevated station on Nanjing Metro Line S1. It is located on the north side of the intersection of Jiangjun Avenue and Zhengfang Zhonglu in Jiangning District, opened on 1 July 2014. Taking the metro from here to Nanjing South Station is the transition linking mountain wilderness to urban center. Nanjing South Station, the largest transport hub in East China. Vast, crowded. From the metro, switching to high‑speed rail, heading to Wuhan. This day, from mountain dwelling to metropolis, from Nanjing to Wuhan—crossing geographic and cultural boundaries, embedding myself into China‘s landscape in a grounded way. ——— Inside and outside the windows—a film titled The Earth or Life. From the car window leaving the mountain home, to the subway window, to the high‑speed rail window. Slow down, see the world. Capture the cinematic. This journey itself is a miniature epic. From the intimate (a friend driving), to the underground (the metro), to the expansive (the station), to the national scale (high‑speed rail)—these modes of transport form a narrative of ritual and structure. Filming along the way is writing visual chapters for this “personal epic.” Every transition point—the depth of a metro platform, the moment a high‑speed train arrives—is a natural storyboard for this “road movie.” The congestion and freedom of the car, the pauses and accelerations of the subway, the speed and impact of the high‑speed train—shifts in speed radically reshape your perception of time and space. ——… Trains, subways, buses—all are typical “liminal spaces.” In these spaces, your mind is freed from daily responsibilities, becoming unusually sharp and creative.
