Contrabands removed from Empangeni Correctional Centre
Tonight, 28 December 2025, The Department of Correctional Services National Commissioner, Makgothi Thobakgale, led a targeted and unannounced search operation at Empangeni Medium Correctional Centre in Empangeni, KZN Region. Various contraband was found and removed. Offenders found with contraband face reclassification from Medium, to more stricter correctional facilities. The National Commissioner also emphasized that officials that are found to be assisting with smuggling of contraband face disciplinary actions which mainly result in dismissal from the service
