Washington State is difficult to explain. It is a place where deserts, rainforests, volcanoes, mountains, islands, farmland, and oceans somehow exist together. A place where people discuss weather forecasts with surprising enthusiasm. A place where coffee becomes a personality trait. A place where ferries feel like part of everyday life and mountains are spoken of almost like old friends. When I first arrived, many things seemed a little strange. But the longer I stayed, the more I realized that what felt strange was also what made this place special. The endless evergreens. The mist over the water. The roadside fruit stands. The small towns. The ferries. The mountains. The people. This song is a journey across Washington State—from Spokane to the Cascades, from Yakima to Leavenworth, from the coastline to the forests, from the cities to the islands. More than anything, it is a song about how a place slowly becomes part of you. This song is the fifth and final entry in my Washington State song series.
