Let us start the week on a superlative note, with the debut full length album from Finland’s Wolftower, released today by Inferna Profundus Records. A long series of demos, EPs and splits since 2021 have established the work of sole-member Vyrtur as one of the most compelling artists around at the moment, with a resolutely Finnish sound of baleful, raw riffs and hypnotic rhythms. Throne of Nightfall's Wrath is another exquisite release in this torrent of malevolent ecstasy, embodying the ice, fire, and primitive rage of cold Northern black metal, with an imperious production style that ensures no detail of sonic devastation and melodic evisceration is lost to (too much) murk.
