Dr. Elisa Stein provided an overview of immunoadsorption trials for ME/CFS. She emphasised that, in a subgroup of post-infectious ME/CFS patients, autoimmunity forms the underlying pathogenesis. In these patients, G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) autoantibodies can be removed via immunoadsorption, resulting in symptom improvement. Dr. Stein highlighted the importance of differentiating between subgroups based on distinct immunophenotypes, as well as their immune and autoimmune profiles.
