Winston Churchill, a larger-than-life figure with his ever-present cigar and his fingers forming the V for victory, literally galvanized Londoners during the Blitz, as tons of bombs rained down on the capital. But when one examines his diplomatic actions, the British statesman appears riddled with contradictions. This documentary notably highlights his ambiguous attitude towards the Polish resistance and Sikorski's government-in-exile. In fact, in 1943, he ordered a cover-up regarding the true perpetrators of the Katyn massacre so as not to upset Stalin. As the Second World War shifted in favor of the Allies, he engaged in a veritable game of poker with Stalin, and later with Roosevelt, to redraw the map of Europe. At the Tehran conference in November 1943, and then at Yalta in February 1945, he tried to play his best cards. But at the time of victory, he was disavowed by his own fellow citizens, who had adored him.
