Sabiani, an ambitious politician, wanted to win the mayoralty. Carbone and Spirito, two gangsters, guaranteed him victory in exchange for access to power. The first political-mafia alliance in France was forged. It continued throughout World War II. Carbone and Spirito become deeply involved in collaboration. Meanwhile, their successors join the Resistance. As the war draws to a close, Étienne Léandri, a gigolo and Gestapo agent, flees to Italy to prepare for what comes next… Episode 2 – In the Service of France (1945-1975) In 1945, France must restore public order, combat the communists, and defend its colonies. The government extends the nefarious pact forged with the Corsican mafia. In exchange for their services in Marseille, Tangier, and Hanoi, the French Republic and the American CIA grant impunity to the second-generation Corsican godfathers. They establish themselves in the heroin trade, work with Cosa Nostra, control gambling dens, and practice intimidation within the intelligence services. Until the United States declares war on the French Connection. One man survives: Étienne Léandri, who straddles two worlds and forges close ties with the politician Charles Pasqua… Episode 3 – The Republic Riddled with Corruption (1975-2015) At the time of decolonization, the Corsican mafia was brought to its knees. The French Republic allowed it to rise again by integrating it into the corruption network of the oil company Elf. At the heart of this system was the indispensable Étienne Léandri. A tool of postcolonial domination, Elf relied on the subjugation of African heads of state and on the children of the Corsican diaspora in Africa. After making their fortunes in Africa, these Corsican-Africans settled in France. They enjoy high-level protection at the highest levels of power, forge ties with the godfather of South Corsica and the Brise de Mer gang, and rely on the compromise of certain nationalists to achieve their dream: transforming Corsica into a haven for mafia bosses.
