Why you feel like a stranger to yourself

Do you feel a bit alien to yourself lately? Maybe the things you liked to do or were capable of, no longer feel accessible. This might be a sign that you are in transition, ready to move from identities that no longer serve you. From a spiritual perspective, if we can observe or define something, it is an indication that it is not who we truly are. We can observe our thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and identities because there is a deeper aspect of ourselves that is doing the observing. That which we fundamentally are cannot be fully grasped as an object of perception. From a deep therapy perspective, the unconscious is constantly presenting us with opportunities for growth and integration. It brings us face to face with recurring patterns, attachments, and ways of identifying ourselves. When we begin to notice those patterns—to see the mismatch between who we think we are and what is actually unfolding—it may be a sign that we are ready to integrate what those patterns have to teach us and loosen our attachment to them. In this video, I explore why feeling disconnected from yourself can be a natural part of growth, and I share a simple practice you can use to investigate the identities you may be ready to outgrow. 00:00 Into 01:22 Spiritual perspective 08:02 Deep therapy perspective 11:22 Practice
