There are many historical buildings in Okara which could have been preserved as part of the cultural heritage but due to the incompetence and carelessness of the institutions many historical places have disappeared. The main reason is that the preservation of these buildings is not included in the priorities of the Government. In this video we will show you the 112 years old historical and strange Kothi of maze type which was constructed during British Era in 1912. Similarly when the British made the Lower Bari Doab Canal accessible in 1912 in the first settlement of 1914-13 Lord Cole settled nine thousand acres of forest six kilometers north of Okara town. Lord Cole devised a system for populating the land like a system for running a state. This land consisted of seven Chakkas 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 34/2 R and 28/2 R, now known as Kalyana Estate whose head office was built in the suburb village 34/2R and to run the system here a Nolakhi Kothi was built which was an example of its beauty at that time. Nolakhi Kothi has an area of ​​3 acres and its construction cost 9 lakh rupees hence it came to be called Nolakhi Kothi. After the creation of Pakistan Lord Cole's granddaughter Miller lived here and till then this palace had the status of a king's palace in any state. Adjacent to the Kothi were offices, staff quarters, granary, library, dispensary and a horse farm but all these have now been lost in the dust of time and now only Nolakhi Kothi makes its presence felt. The interior rooms, ceilings and doors of the palace present a view of ruins. Adjacent to the Kothi is a 3 acre lawn and here was a 12 acre mango orchard where high quality mango plants were procured from Lucknow and planted now only 7 acre mango orchard remain. Nolakhi Kothi currently has 22 rooms, 4 kitchens, excellent lighting arrangement, lock system, floors, bookcases, lamps and the domed ceiling of the guest house is a testament to its beautiful architecture. The construction of the walls presents a high example of the architecture of the time and special care was taken to keep the Kothi cool in summer and warm in winter. After Miller this place was allotted to Nawab Sir Mehr Ali Shah of Jalalpur Jatan after which this place came to his son Nawabzada Maqbool Hussain. Then Nawab Shams Haider lived here till 2014 but due to the court order he left here and while leaving he took all the rare things of this house with him and now it is just a dilapidated empty building. It is say that the rooms and corridors in this palace were made in such a way that it is very difficult for a person who enters the palace through one door to come out again from the same door and for a person who leaves from the same door. A reward of Rs 500 and a turban had been given to a person who in and out from the same door. It is saying that the miller cared a lot about the people of the village especially the women and in the matter of cleaning the village she used to give a reward of Rs 500 to the woman who kept her house the cleanest. The local people say that of course when this Kothi was inhabited our village was no less than a state with a complete system of administration but now we feel as if it is not this Kothi but our village that has been destroyed. They say that historical buildings like Nolkhi Kothi which are very important in terms of settlement and history of Okara District should not only be taken into the custody of the government but if such historical buildings are given the status of park, school or library etc. That way their beauty can be restored. About the decline of the Kothi the local people say that actually the decline of the Kothi started during the reign of Ayub Khan when he started allotting this land to military officers under the Ghori Pal scheme. It should be noted that now this place has been allotted to Major Raza of Pakistan Army for 10 years after 2014. The researchers about Nolakhi Kothi, say that for compiling the revenue records there are two sites near Nolakhi Kothi and there were palaces but the granary records which have completely disappeared over time. If this beautiful piece of architecture is restored in the same condition it will not only be preserved as a historical monument for us but will also prove to be a special attraction for history seekers.
