Wow, Carcassonne is more than just a castle. An inquisition museum, the world oldest basilica, the cassoulet sold in every restaurant and not to forget; the castle. Very intense but well worth the trip. Go visit Carcassonne early morning and you still have the place to yourself. Carcassonne, a hilltop town in southern France’s Languedoc area, is famous for its medieval citadel, La Cité, with numerous watchtowers and double-walled fortifications.
