𝗗𝗢𝗪𝗡𝗦𝗜𝗭𝗘 𝗢𝗥𝗗𝗘𝗥: Police Enforce 60-Gallon Limit as Items Confiscated in Heated Venice Sweep

VENICE, CA — Friday, March 20, 2026 — City crews carried out a coordinated multi-agency cleanup operation Friday morning along the Venice Beach oceanfront corridor, including the skate park, beach, and surrounding areas, following the posting of a “Notice of Major Cleaning” earlier in the week. The notice, posted March 18, directed individuals to remove all personal property from designated areas along Ocean Front Walk between Venice Boulevard and Brooks Avenue by 6:00 a.m. Friday. It advised that sidewalks, alleys, parks, and adjacent public spaces would undergo comprehensive sanitation, including power washing, and that property remaining after the deadline could be removed by the City. Under Los Angeles Municipal Code §56.11, Environmental Compliance Inspectors (ECI) informed individuals they could retain up to 60 gallons of personal property. During the operation, inspectors provided 60-gallon bags and directed individuals to consolidate belongings within that limit. One individual was observed attempting to comply with the requirement, gathering items into the provided bag. Property exceeding the 60-gallon allowance was collected by inspectors, bagged, and taken into City storage. A posted retrieval notice was left at the location, informing the owner that the items had been stored at the City’s designated facility, “The Bin,” and could be reclaimed within a 90-day period by contacting the site and verifying ownership. Friday’s operation brought together Los Angeles Park Rangers Security Services, Los Angeles Police Department officers, the Department of Public Works, Environmental Compliance Inspectors, LA County Beaches & Harbors, Clean Harbors Environmental Services, the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), and a homeless coordinator from the office of Councilwoman Traci Park. The coordinated response spanned multiple areas identified in the advance notice. Public Works crews removed accumulated refuse and bulky items, while Clean Harbors personnel handled hazardous materials encountered during the cleanup. Park Rangers remained on site to monitor compliance and maintain security, while city representatives assisted with coordination. City officials describe these operations as part of ongoing efforts to address sanitation and public-access concerns in high-traffic coastal areas while enforcing municipal regulations on public property storage.
