Homemade Lathe: How I Built It From Start to Finish

Previously, the project was divided into four separate parts, but in this video I combined everything into one for easier viewing. In this stage, I made the cross slide, a tool holder, installed an electric motor, and a frequency inverter that converts single-phase 220V into three-phase 380V. I hope this is the final part of building my lathe. At first, I planned to make the cross slide using linear guides from CNC machines, but when I was ready to buy them, the war in Ukraine started, and it became impossible to order or deliver anything. The same situation was with orders from China. So I had to make everything myself — angles, plates, welding. Maybe in the future I will upgrade it. Then I made the tool holder and a cutting tool with a height of 25 mm. The construction turned out to be massive and, in my opinion, quite strong. The final stage is painting and assembling the whole machine. And the most interesting part — the first test and the first chips on my homemade metal lathe. As for tools — an angle grinder, a drill or drill press, files, a welding machine, and most importantly, a strong desire to build something with your own hands.
