OH MY JOB! : Product Manager

In this new episode of OH MY JOB!, we meet Camélia, Product Manager at Aircall. Within a company, the Product Manager's role is to understand the problems of current and future customers and translate them into solutions implemented by the development teams. "Our job as Product Managers is to support this imagined solution and turn it into something real in the hands of customers," Camélia summarizes. Be careful not to confuse Product Manager and Product Owner. The latter has a strong operational component, while the Product Manager focuses more on strategy. Although an engineering or computer science degree isn't required to become a Product Manager, a curiosity for all things technical and IT is essential. "I went to business school; I don't have a technical background. However, from my very first internships, I positioned myself as a Product Specialist," Camélia explains. On a daily basis, the Product Manager works with both the developers (who develop the solution) and the sales and support teams, who are in direct contact with prospects and customers and can therefore escalate any product-related issues. A word of advice to aspiring Product Managers: don't rush into it. "The mistake is to talk to two clients, think you have the solution to everything, and start implementing it," explains Camélia.
