[New Chobo Seminar] Following our May discussion of the Sanseito Party's "Constitutional Creation Proposal," this month we will examine the Liberal Democratic Party's "2012 Constitutional Amendment Proposal." Like the Sanseito Party's "Constitutional Creation Proposal," this proposal also fails to grasp the fundamentals of constitutional reform in modern civil society. It seems to be based on nostalgia for the pre-war Meiji Constitution, resulting in an anachronistic, retrospective style, while simultaneously containing neoliberal elements that cannot be overlooked. We hope that Professor Masahiko Shimizu of Nippon Sport Science University, a constitutional scholar, will rigorously examine the LDP's "2012 Constitutional Amendment Proposal" in comparison to the Japanese Constitution, thereby helping us learn about the fundamentals of the constitution in the modern era. Furthermore, this time, we will also discuss the problems with the LDP's "4-Point Constitutional Amendment Proposal" for 2018. In order to realize proper democratic politics and national sovereignty in this country, it is essential that we, the sovereign people and citizens, raise our understanding of the Constitution.
