Day 26 of our Alaska Road Trip was packed with wildlife, local history, and some of the best sights Anchorage has to offer! We started the day with the famous Anchorage Trolley Tour, where our guide, Alice—a lifelong Alaska resident—shared fascinating stories, local history, and insider tips about Alaska’s largest city. We always like to take a city tour early in our visit because it’s one of the best ways to discover hidden gems and plan the rest of our stay. After the trolley tour, we headed to Ship Creek hoping to watch the famous Alaska salmon run, but the salmon had other plans! Even without the fish, the waterfront was worth exploring before stopping for lunch at the legendary Humpy’s Great Alaskan Alehouse, one of Anchorage’s most popular restaurants. Next, we visited the historic Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race ceremonial starting area, where we unexpectedly met Rod Perry, making an already memorable day even better. The excitement wasn’t over. As we returned to our campground, we spotted two moose near the entrance, and just minutes later, a mother black bear with two cubs casually walked through the campground—an unforgettable Alaska wildlife experience and one of the highlights of our entire trip! With beautiful weather, incredible wildlife sightings, and another full day of exploring Anchorage, this adventure reminded us why Alaska belongs on every traveler’s bucket list. Tomorrow is our final day in Anchorage before continuing our epic Alaska road trip.
