These cases are the nominative, accusative, dative, and genitive. This is something that worries all German learners. For this reason, I wanted to dedicate enough space to it and will create a specific video for each case. Understanding cases in German is essential for successful language learning. I know many people who have a fairly good level of the language, but they never learned the cases well and always end up making the same mistakes. That's why I recommend you stay until the end of the video and subscribe so you don't miss the next videos in this series. What are cases in German? Cases in German are used to determine the different elements of a sentence. In fact, in terms of grammatical function, this is also the case in Spanish. The difference is that in German, cases have a different form depending on the function they perform. And that's where declensions come into play. That is, depending on the function of an element in the sentence, it will be declined in one way or another. German isn't the only language with cases and declensions. Without going any further, Latin, the language from which Spanish is derived, also has these grammatical elements. And many modern languages also have this structure. In Spanish, the way we designate the grammatical function of each part of speech is with prepositions. That's why we tend to add prepositions in German where they aren't really needed. And now I want to make a quick note. It's extremely important that you understand the basics of cases and declensions in German. However, don't obsess over it when speaking. It's very normal to make mistakes, so speak it poorly until you get it right. That's much better than not speaking it for fear of making a mistake, because if you do, you'll end up never speaking it at all. The Nominative Well, now that we've introduced the cases in German, today we'll talk about the easiest of all, which is the nominative. Basically, the nominative refers to the subject of the sentence. And that's it, the element that performs the action within a sentence. That is, the one who executes the verb. Let's go with a very basic sentence. Ich lerne Deutsch. - I learn German. In this case, "Ich" (I) is the subject, since it is the one who performs the action, which in this case is learning German. For this reason, "ich" is in the nominative. In this case, since "I" is a pronoun, the case is not explicitly seen, since no determiner indicates it. So let's go with a noun. Der Mann lernt Deutsch. - The man learns German. "Der Mann" is the subject of the sentence, because it is the one who learns German. Furthermore, we can see the nominative case because the determiner "der" is declined in the nominative. The declension of the determiner pronouns in the nominative is as follows: der Mann - masculine die Frau - feminine das Kind - the boy/the girl But there are not only declensions for the three genders: masculine, feminine, and neuter. The plural is common to all genders and has its own declension. In the nominative, the determiner pronoun would be: die Kinder - the boys and girls If we want to use a possessive pronoun, the declension would be as follows: mein Mann - my husband meine Frau - my wife mein Kind - my son/daughter meine Kinder - my sons/daughters ___ Find me also here: 📸 Instagram: https://bit.ly/2wUF3hf 🐦 Twitter: https://bit.ly/2OXQSd4 👩🏼 Facebook: https://bit.ly/2pNh6Ex 📝 Blog: https://bit.ly/2B6Uvvd ➡️ SHOP in my Online Store: https://bit.ly/2P5ZxPn ___ Music: 🌟Quentin Hannappe - Raise Your Voice 🌟Epidemic Sound
