Renault Twingo Produktion in Novo Mesto
In the heart of Slovenia, at the Renault plant in Novo Mesto, one of the most important vehicles for the brand's electric future is being built: the new Renault Twingo. A vehicle designed to redefine affordable electric mobility – compact, efficient, and with a level of quality previously reserved for higher vehicle classes. But the new Twingo is not just the product of European engineering; it's also the result of an international development project within the framework of the so-called ACDC project with Chinese partners. The challenge? Maintaining the highest product quality while maintaining high cost efficiency and short development times. Novo Mesto has been one of Renault's most efficient locations in Europe for years. Here, automated manufacturing, digital quality control, and experienced specialists converge. Even in the body-in-white stage, camera systems inspect every single weld. Lasers measure body structures down to a tenth of a millimeter. Strict standards also apply to painting and final assembly. This is true for the new Twingo as well, because electric vehicles place different demands on manufacturing and quality management than conventional combustion engine vehicles. Changing the subject to the new Renault Twingo – designed to be practical for everyday use and, above all, a compact electric car for urban areas – featuring modern technology, ease of use, and an attractive price. Renault is consciously focusing on reduced complexity. Fewer components, more efficient platforms, and more digitized production processes are intended to improve both quality and cost-effectiveness. This approach is hardly possible today without international cooperation. Together with Chinese partners, Renault is working on faster development processes, cost-efficient platform solutions, and new approaches to electromobility. This collaboration demonstrates the profound transformation of the automotive industry. Innovations are now created globally – development, software, and manufacturing are internationally networked. For Renault, however, this also means combining European quality standards with the speed of Asian development cycles. And this is precisely where Novo Mesto comes into play, as the plant is not only responsible for production but also for translating these global standards into a production-ready, high-quality product. Despite automation, however, people remain crucial. Many quality checks are still performed manually by specially trained employees. They inspect surfaces, material transitions, and interior workmanship. Because, especially with a vehicle, it's not just technical reliability that counts, but also the perceived quality. And this perception ultimately determines how competitive European electric cars will be in the future. Despite automation, however, people remain crucial. Because, especially with a vehicle, it's not just technical reliability that counts, but also the perceived quality. And it is precisely this impression that will ultimately determine how competitive European electric cars will be in the future. It's interesting to see how a city car can be brought to such a high level of quality, because ultimately, it's a car for the people. That's exactly how the vehicle has always been perceived, especially the first generation. Seeing how such a high level of workmanship and quality is achieved here, not only in the bodywork but also in the extreme attention to detail in the interior and exterior design, is truly impressive. The Renault plant in Novo Mesto thus exemplifies the transformation of the automotive industry in Europe. Faster development, international partnerships, and new technologies are fundamentally changing production. The new Twingo is intended to demonstrate that affordable electric mobility and high product quality don't have to be mutually exclusive. Whether this concept succeeds remains to be seen. At least the foundation for it is being laid here in Novo Mesto.
