It has been three days since the fire broke out at the Coupang logistics center in Incheon. Firefighting efforts have continued uninterrupted; we connect with our reporter to check the situation. Reporter Shim Sae-ha, what is the current status of the firefighting efforts? [Reporter] Yes, nearly 60 hours have passed since the fire started, but the main flames have not yet been brought under control. The fire, which began on the 6th floor of the Incheon Coupang logistics center around 7 a.m. the day before yesterday, has spread to the 7th floor, and firefighting operations are currently continuing, focusing on the upper floors of the building. Furthermore, it was stated that there are currently no plans to deploy firefighters to the site due to the large volume of flammable materials, such as household goods, stored inside and the complex shelving structure. In particular, the focus is currently on preventing the fire from spreading to the lower 5th floor. Since hundreds of logistics robots using lithium batteries are located on the 5th floor, there is a risk that the fire could rapidly spread throughout the entire building if it expands. Initially, fire authorities aimed to bring the main fire under control around 11 PM last night, but the firefighting effort is taking longer than expected as flames have repeatedly reignited inside the building. Fire authorities are using excavators to demolish parts of the exterior wall to vent internal heat and smoke, and are deploying aerial ladder trucks and thermal imaging drones to concentrate water spray on areas where heat is concentrated. [Anchor] The evacuation order is still in effect for the area surrounding the logistics center where the fire occurred, isn't it? [Reporter] Yes, in preparation for the possibility of the parking ramp collapsing due to the fire, Incheon Seohae-gu has maintained an evacuation order for areas within a 116-meter radius of the ramp since 11 PM last night. Currently, 169 people from 90 households are staying at two shelters, including Sinhyeon Elementary School and Sinhyeonbuk Elementary School, and temporary shelters have been prepared for additional evacuation. However, structural experts explained that the risk of the entire building collapsing has significantly decreased, and they assess that the possibility of further collapse due to the fire has also been considerably reduced. Nevertheless, fire authorities are continuing firefighting operations while monitoring the situation in real-time with collapse warning equipment installed. Meanwhile, as smoke and toxic gases continue to emanate from the fire site, 31 nearby daycare centers have been advised to close; among them, 14 have closed, and nearby elementary schools are also maintaining their closures.
