You can see the building behind me with its exterior walls blackened by soot. Smoke-up operations are currently underway inside the building. The main fire was brought under control around 8 p.m. yesterday (the 20th), 61 hours after it started. Firefighters have entered the ramp section connecting the two buildings of the logistics center where the fire broke out and are currently conducting firefighting operations. They explained that a structural safety assessment determined that suppression activities in the ramp section below the sixth floor are safe. The response level was also lowered to Level 1 about an hour ago. The National Fire Mobilization Order was partially lifted this morning, and some equipment provided from Sejong and other locations has been withdrawn. This fire has been recorded as the longest domestic logistics center fire to be extinguished in its initial stages. Given that the previous record holder, the fire at the Deokpyeong Logistics Center in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province in 2021, took over 130 hours to completely put out, it appears that this fire will also take a considerable amount of time to be fully extinguished. [Reporter] Yes, it has been confirmed that a total of 25 issues were identified during the internal inspection of fire safety facilities at the Coupang logistics center earlier this year. Regarding the 6th floor, where the fire originated, there were three issues, such as the need for repairs to detached detector pipe connections; the fire department explained that these were very minor matters. Subsequently, it is reported that Coupang submitted a report on the completion of corrective actions to the fire department last May. The evacuation order for residents near the logistics center, previously issued earlier, was lifted at 11 p.m. yesterday (the 20th). It appears that the risk of building collapse has decreased as the fire was extinguished in its early stages. However, due to strong winds and rain, parts of the burnt exterior wall have fallen off, expanding the scope of access restrictions. The specific scale of damage and the cause of the fire will be investigated in earnest after the fire is completely extinguished. Fire authorities plan to prepare for a joint forensic investigation with relevant agencies, including the police, to determine the cause of the fire.
