Segundo Imbert Brugal habla de su libro, y de las malas prácticas de la industria farmacéutica
Segundo Imbert Brugal, a Dominican psychiatrist who studied and worked in Spain, Canada, the United States, and his home country, delves into the weaknesses and strengths of his profession in his latest book, revealing details of his discoveries, including those related to the pharmaceutical industry's unethical practices in turning doctors into mercenaries. "In a way, I was a mercenary for the pharmaceutical companies because I was a speaker for several of them. They paid me, put me up in hotels, and encouraged me to market their medications," he said. He revealed that a former pharmaceutical executive confided in him that it all started with the idea that the companies should bribe doctors to boost sales, and that the conclusion was, "It worked for us." He said his book compiles his experiences as a mental health professional, his years of training in his home country, Spain, and Canada, as well as his professional work in Florida. Although he clarifies that it is neither a memoir nor a biography, but rather an assessment of his time in clinical psychiatry, from which he is now semi-retired. He says he has returned to the country, is currently living in Santo Domingo, and does not accept high-profile cases, such as psychiatric cases that have gone to court. He revealed that he has been approached to treat clients in these cases, and has declined. He dedicates himself solely to offering second opinions to professionals and individuals involved in mental health. He is concerned about the lack of psychiatric centers and the scarcity of public policies in the country, in addition to the poor training of new professionals. He maintained that mental health policies should be designed based on identified needs and within communities, including those communities.
