We never intended to translate the rest of the "Legend of Fei" osts because they're so difficult (think Shakespearean English), but the lyrics for the songs are simply too poetic and beautiful. An explanation of the title - The title of the song refers to a famous line from the novel said by the male lead: 经一场大梦，梦中见满眼山花如翡， Jīng yī chǎng dà mèng, mèng zhōng jiàn mǎnyǎn shānhuā I had a dream. In the dream, my surroundings were filled with mountains and flowers that looked like jade (pronounced as "fei", thus, a reference to the name of the female character, Zhou Fei). 如见故人，喜不自胜 (Rú fěi, rú jiàn gùrén, xǐ bù zì shèng) It was similar to meeting an old, familiar friend (seemingly another reference to Zhou Fei). Therefore, the title can be translated as "Like Jade" or "Like Fei." At 1:25 and 1:30, this line said by the male lead is also referenced. TN [1] 0:26 蔻 (Kòu) refers to 豆蔻 (Dòukòu) which literally means, "Nutmeg". In the olden days, it is typically used to refer to young girls around the ages of 13-14. [2] 0:28 (a) 晨光绕 (Chénguāng rào) literally means "Following the light of the morning sun." However, this is merely a description and doesn’t seem to mean anything much other than creating imagery for the audiences. (b) 青葱 (Qīngcōng) literally means "Spring onions", and in olden days, is used to refer to youths. [3] 0:40 画地为牢 (Huàdìwéiláo) literally means "Draw a circle on the ground to serve as a prison," which is used to express restricting a person’s activities to a designated area. [4] 0:44 江湖 (Jiānghú) is a shared world and an alternative universe. It consists of people who know martial arts and pugilists. [5] 0:48 执子手 (Zhí zi shǒu) most likely came from a famous phrase from the poem 诗经·国风·邶风·击鼓 (Shijing·Guofeng·Beifeng·Jigu). The original line, 执子之手，与子偕老 (Zhí zǐ zhī shǒu, yǔ zi xiélǎo) means "Hand in hand, growing old together with you." [6] 1:00 木桃 (Mù táo) is a reference to the poem, 诗经·国风·卫风·木瓜 (Shijing·Guofeng·Weifeng·Mugua). In the poem, there’s a line that goes 投我以木桃，报之以琼瑶 (Tóu wǒ yǐ mù táo, bào zhī yǐ qióngyáo) which means, "You gave me a peach, so I’ll give you a jade as repayment." The poem describes a male and a female who likes each other. The line basically means "He gives her a peach to express his affections, and to reciprocate his feelings, she gave him a jade."
