Historic Catoctin Aqueduct on C&O Canal
Historic Catoctin Aqueduct on the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal and Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Sometimes called The crooked Aqueduct because of the bend the canal at the approach. A flood in October 1973 caused the center and upstream arches to collapse. The structure had been sagging for many years. A steel structure took the place of the aqueduct arches for many years until The structure was restored in 2011, using reinforced concrete and some of the stones recovered from in the creek. Baltimore and Ohio Railroad came through in 1834. The location is great for watching trains. #Metrotrails #history #fblifestyle #trainspotting #canals
