Jeff "Beachbum" Berry and Latitude 29 - A Moment of Tiki episode 93

There are few names that carry as much weight in tiki culture as Jeff "Beachbum" Berry. Oft described as the Indiana Jones of tiki, Berry single-handedly tracked down hundreds, if not thousands, of cocktail recipes from tiki's golden age that had been forgotten and were on the verge of being lost forever. What began as a personal hobby--he searched out the recipes because he wanted to make the cocktails for himself at home--soon beget the recipe book, "Beachbum Berry's Grog Log." Others followed: "Intoxica!" and "Taboo Table" were recipe collections, but Berry shifted gears with "Sippin' Safari" and "Potions of the Caribbean," giving readers a fascinating tour of tiki history, sharing obscure stories and secret origins of this quirky, pseudo-Polynesian subculture (along with tasty recipes as well). After relocating to New Orleans from Los Angeles, Berry and his wife opened Latitude 29 in 2014, quickly establishing it as one of the premiere tiki destinations in the U.S. Join me as I sit down with the man himself and discuss his life, career and future projects!
