1974-5 Chrysler 5hp (Model 54 HB)

I adopted this poor little Chrysler 5hp for $35 at the Rocky Hill AOMCI meet. Filthy and forlorn, this motor was passed over by everyone and its owner threatened to send it to the smelter if someone didn't take it off his hands. Like a puppy from the pound, it followed me home.... I'd actually been intrigued by this model for some time; they are an updated version of the 1947-50 West Bend/Elgin 3.5 and 5hp 7.52CID motor. (What was updated is roller bearings on the crank and deletion of the crankcase drain. Also the new leg and fiberglass cowl.) Once home and cleaned up, this little guy just needed a basic fuel system cleaning and mag spiff-up. The Fairbanks Morse recoil is a little funky, probably why this guy doesn't have a lot of hours on it. It runs really great and I can't wait for it to warm up so i can run it on the boat! If you like this video I want to give a shout-out to AOMCI member Ben D. (chrysleroutboarddude) who's fine videos showcase many other model Chryslers from this era. They are well engineered and often overlooked classic outboards.
