A US digital influencer was convicted after deceiving followers by faking cancer to raise money. Haleigh Morgan Knight moved many people with false accounts of a supposed battle against pancreatic cancer. She raised approximately US$20,000 through social media campaigns and donation pages. For almost a year, the page remained active until complaints led to an investigation by the Henderson, Nevada, prosecutor's office. Investigations revealed that Haleigh not only invented the illness but also engaged in other financial frauds related to fake contracts as a travel consultant. At trial, the influencer admitted guilt and expressed remorse for her actions. The court sentenced her to 30 days in prison and two years of probation.
