Konnakkol is the traditional art of translating and vocalizing rhythmic patterns into jatis (rhythmic syllables). It is a universal language of rhythm that can be applied not only to Carnatic vocal and instrumental performance but also across genres. In this workshop led by Sri. R Ramkumar, our in-house percussion and konnakkol expert, we explore various aspects and applications of konnakkol from a basic to a more advanced level, and also try to de-mystify the approach taken by percussion artists during Carnatic concerts.
