It is 11 km away from the National Highway 6. The origin of the name came from a Nag temple sited at the center of the sanctuary and the temple of Mahadeo. The origin of ‘Zira’ (zara) in Marathi means a lasting source of water that ooze out from a valley in Pongezara, Nagzira. It is a shelter for such wide range of wildlife like Indian wild boar, mouse deer, sambar deer, dholes, jungle cats, herbivores mammals, reptiles, bengal tiger, leopard, chitkul and much more.
