Laugavegur Trek in August

Laugavegur Trek Classic 5-day trek from Landmannalaugar to Thórsmörk ➢ Duration: 5 days, 4 nights ➢ Total walking distance: 59 km (37 miles) ➢ Altitude: 200-1100 m (650-3600 feet) ➢ Maximum Ascent: 600 m (1900 feet) Best times to hike this trail: July & August. Day 1: Public bus from Reykjavik – Landmannalaugar Hike from Landmannalaugar to Hrafntinnusker (12 km /7.5 mi.) Day 2: Hike from Hrafntinnusker to Álftavatn ( 12 km / 7.5 mi.) Day 3: Hike from Álftavatn to Emstrur (16 km / 10 mi.) Day 4: Hike from Emstrur to Thórsmörk Básar (19 km/12 mi.) Day 5: Hike in Thórsmörk & Public bus to Reykjavik Distance (19 km/12 mi.) Due to bad weather, we had to combine the first two days of our hike into one. We got a late start—around 1 pm—since it took about four hours by bus from BSI station in Reykjavik to Landmannalaugar. If you're short on time, consider staying overnight in Landmannalaugar to start hiking early the next morning. From there, reaching the second hut, Álftavatn, or Hvanngil Hut in a single day is doable. Most tours end upon reaching Thórsmörk, but we highly recommend spending a couple of extra days there to explore the area. The scenery is absolutely worth it. If you have two additional days, hike the Fimmvörðuháls Trail from Þórsmörk to Skógar—you won’t regret it!
