Solo Hike from Landmannalaugar to Skogar: Iceland’s Best Trek | Laugavegur and Fimmvörðuháls Trail

The Laugavegur trail is located in Suðurland, the southern region of Iceland, and it runs for approximately 55km across varied landscapes, from colourful rhyolite mountains, canyons, lakes, and moss-covered lava and obsidian plains, to forests, rivers, glaciers and waterfalls. In addition to the Laugavegur trail, the Fimmvörðuháls trail is a nice cherry-on-top in which I walked in between 2 of Iceland's ice caps, the Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökul. And the best part? The last section of this entire journey greeted me with one waterfall after another, which ultimately ends with Skógafoss. I never really thought of walking the Laugavegur trail. In fact, it was never under my radar as I was actually planning some hikes in Greenland. While doing my research about the best way to reach Greenland, I decided to just stop over in Iceland, as I have never been there during the warm months. From there, I came across the information about the Laugavegur trail, and I was not disappointed with my decision. I was in awe at every turn. It really felt like I was on a different planet. At one point, I thought I was a hobbit walking back to the Shire after a difficult quest from Mordor. I was alone along the trail most of the time, which made me focus more on the sceneries, the cold touch of the wind, the crumbling of the loose, eroded igneous rocks under the weight of my steps, and the rush of the water while it embrace each turn of the canyons. This was a great space to reflect. I met a lot of people along the way, too, and made good acquaintances. As one of them said before we left Skógar, "It's like one big hiking family."
