🙏 🔴 SUBSCRIBE NOW. We continue through the Book of Amos and come to Amos 2:4–16, where the spotlight moves from the surrounding nations to Judah and Israel themselves. Amos has already declared judgment on foreign nations, but now the message turns inward. Judah is confronted because they have rejected the law of the Lord, failed to keep His statutes, and been led astray by lies and false gods. This is a serious warning: being known as God’s people does not give anyone permission to live however they please. Amos speaks to Judah in much the same way he spoke to the nations, showing that God’s judgement is not avoided by religious identity, heritage, or outward association. The study also looks at the danger of traditions of men, false religion, empty worship, and idols that are passed down from generation to generation. Jesus confronts the same issue in Matthew 15, where people honour God with their lips while their hearts remain far from Him. From there, the focus turns to Israel. Amos exposes a nation marked by injustice, greed, exploitation of the poor, sexual immorality, corrupt worship, and refusal to hear the prophets. Israel sold the righteous for money, the needy for a pair of sandals, and silenced those God had raised up to speak His word. This message is deeply relevant for the church today. Can we be outwardly religious but inwardly far from God? Can we worship traditions more than Christ? Can we claim to love God while ignoring justice, mercy, truth, and holiness? Can a nation — or a church — presume upon God’s favour while rejecting His word? Amos reminds us that God sees everything. He sees false worship. He sees injustice. He sees hypocrisy. He sees the heart. The study also moves into Romans 2 and the question of Jewish identity, salvation, circumcision of the heart, and whether outward religion is enough. Paul is clear: it is not the hearers of the law who are just before God, but the doers. True belonging to God has always involved the heart. Ultimately, this message points us back to Christ. Heritage, religion, tradition, law-keeping, and outward identity cannot save. Salvation is found only in Jesus Christ. The gospel remains the power of God for salvation — to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile.
