Zaenur Rohman, a researcher at the UGM Center for Anti-Corruption Studies (Pukat), criticized the Attorney General's Office's (AGO) suspension of data collection related to the problematic Free Nutritional Meals (MBG) program. He questioned the legal basis for the suspension and argued that the move raised suspicions of a political settlement behind the ongoing MBG corruption case. "There is information that an order has been issued to halt data collection on the MBG program in the regions, citing time limits. However, the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) does not contain any time limits for collecting information, materials, data, statements, or field checks," Zaenur said when contacted on Tuesday (July 14, 2026). In this regard, Zaenur also noted the issuance of two letters, which he considered contradictory. The first letter ordered the Attorney General's Office to collect data on the implementation of the MBG. The second letter, however, instructed the Attorney General to halt the activity. This situation raises questions about the initial purpose of the data collection conducted by the AGO. Furthermore, Zaenur suspected that the data collection halt was inextricably linked to the developments in the case of former Jampidsus (Special Crimes Supervisory Agency) Febrie Adriansyah (FA), which has been handed over to the Attorney General's Office. "Is this halt due to a political settlement in the FA case? FA's case has been handed over to the Attorney General's Office for further investigation. This is certainly detrimental to anti-corruption law enforcement," he said. According to him, the alleged irregularities in the MBG program have not been fully resolved. In addition to the cases that have already implicated several suspects, there is still information regarding other alleged corruption cases. These include the sale and purchase of Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) points, alleged fraud, and the mention of dozens of other names by one of the suspects, Sonny Sanjaya, which is considered not to have been comprehensively followed up. "Now, if this is stopped, I believe it represents a setback in the eradication of corruption, a setback in efforts to uncover fraud in the MBG program," he said. He further stated that the controversy demonstrates a tug-of-war of interests among law enforcement officials. "This means that I see anti-corruption law enforcement not as being aimed at eradicating corruption, but rather as a power struggle between law enforcement officials, ultimately resulting in the public being harmed," he said.
