Roast My Ride! | CVT Transmission “Limp Mode” | P1777 P1778

Roast My Ride gets savage with a 2011 Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet (yes, the rare convertible AWD version) that Rainman Ray crowns as the ugliest vehicle ever built—dethroning the Pontiac Aztek. Customer bought it cheap as a parts car, but it limps in CVT hell with P1778 (stepper motor function/no ratio change), P1777, P0746 (pressure solenoid performance), and P0868 (secondary pressure low). No shifts, stuck forward, check engine light after a parking-lot test drive. Ray dives deep: scans codes, checks TCM under the airbox, resistance-tests the four stepper motor circuits (all ~3 ohms—wiring good), drains nasty fluid full of metallic chunks, drops the pan, and inspects the internal stepper motor. Linkage moves, but the pan’s loaded with steel debris and the filter’s clogged with metal bits—classic CVT self-destruction. Verdict: transmission’s toast, eaten itself alive. No cheap stepper fix here; full replacement needed, but customer already said ‘no thanks.’ Hilarious roast, thorough diag autopsy, and a grim lesson on Nissan CVTs.
