Welding Ships, 1960's - Film 15448

Flag with Union Jack in the corner flying. Ship mapping. A ship is aground off the coast of Southern Ireland and a lifeboat from Dunmore East attends. The Dutch vessel 'Jan Brons' is seen on the rocks. After being taken to Dublin the ship is towed Glasson Dock, Lancashire where the damage is viewed. A man looks at the damage to the Hull of the ship and also internal damage to the hold and engine room is apparent. (Diagram of ship). Large parts of the ship are cut away and removed by crane. Shipwrights work on the prefabrication for the hull using the wedling CO2 process. Welding with protective mask. A steel plate construction is lowered into the ship. A crane lifts a large steel plate. CO2 cylinder and welding. Polythene sheeting is secured to the hull by magnets. The ship which is renamed 'Susan' when rebuilt 1965 is ready to refloat and refit. A group of men watch as the water level is raised as the ship is refloated. A group of boys peer over a wall and watch. The ships control room. A horn sounds.
