In a perfectly functional B5-44 DC power supply, also often referred to as a linear laboratory power supply, the handle of the switch accidentally broke. During the replacement process, a simple repair gradually escalated not only into in-depth preventative maintenance, but also into a bit of collective farming, as well as adjusting the characteristics for maximum precision. The second part covers replacing the power rectifier capacitors, checking their thermal conditions, verifying the replacement results, analyzing the cause of systematic errors in the "4" and "8" decades of voltage and current, and analyzing the operation of the op-amp power regulator. The B5-44 DC power supply is a linear compensating DC voltage regulator, combined in a parallel circuit with a linear compensating DC current regulator. The output voltage is adjustable from 0 to 29.9 V in 0.1 volt steps. The output current is adjustable from 0 to 999 mA in 1 milliamp steps. The absence of any switching circuitry allows the B5-44 power supply to provide extremely low output ripple and noise – in voltage stabilization mode, ripple does not exceed 3 mV at full load.
