Instead of deciding where to go first, I began with a simple question: what should I have for lunch? Today’s destination is Muroi, a quiet restaurant tucked away in the northern outskirts of Kyoto, in Takagamine. Its exterior is understated, but the chef’s background is anything but. So I let this lunch become the center of the day. In the morning, I wandered through two quiet temples nearby. At noon, I sat down and took my time with the meal.
