Why Do We Still Love Mid-Century Modern Homes?
What did these homes understand about living that we're still searching for today? Mid-century modern homes and Atomic Ranch houses continue to inspire architects, homeowners, and designers more than 70 years after they were first built. But is it really the architecture we're drawn to, or the lifestyle these homes seemed to represent? In this design experiment, I set out to create a modern mid-century ranch house inspired by the idea of casual living. Along the way, I explored indoor-outdoor connections, shared gathering spaces, the role of the porch, and why these homes continue to resonate today. As always, we'll start with sketches, move into Revit, develop the design, create renderings, and finish with a walkthrough of the completed house. What do you think we're actually nostalgic for? 📐 Floor plans, renderings, and the complete design package are available on Patreon: / designintent Design Intent is a channel about architecture, floor plans, and thoughtful design. Each week we explore a new idea through sketching, modeling, rendering, and discussion.
