The Craziest Lighting Project We’ve Done in Colorado Springs

We lit up a 100+ year old smokestack in Colorado Springs, and the whole city noticed. Tonight we partnered with Gold Hill Mesa in Colorado Springs to light up one of the city’s most iconic landmarks; the historic Gold Cycle Mill smokestack. This towering structure has been standing for over a century, and once the sun dropped behind Pikes Peak, our crew transformed it into a glowing beacon that could be seen from across town. Using a full lighting layout around the base, a gobo projection featuring the Gold Hill Mesa logo, and a completely portable setup powered by battery and generator, with wireless DMX running the whole system, this was one of those nights where everything came together perfectly. In this vlog, you’ll get a full behind-the-scenes look at how we approached the setup, from unloading gear and laying out fixtures, to focusing, programming, running effects, and striking the entire system before heading back to the shop. We also included drone footage from the first time we lit the smokestack last year to help show the scale of the tower and the impact the lighting had on the surrounding area. Projects like this are a reminder of why we love what we do.
