The Himachal 2026 adventure continues as we make an unpredictable and thrilling attempt to reach the mighty Shinku La Pass. Sitting at a massive altitude of 16,580 feet above sea level, Shinku La Top serves as the spectacular border connecting the Lahaul Valley of Himachal Pradesh directly to Zanskar Valley in Ladakh. We woke up in Jispa knowing that the pass was officially closed due to heavy snow blockages, but we decided to take a chance and drive down to the Darcha checkpoint anyway. Luckily for us, a miracle happened, and the pass was opened exclusively for 4x4 vehicles. We immediately rented a local 4x4 vehicle for Rs. 4,000 to embark on one of the wildest mountain rides of our lives. The transition in landscape is mind-blowing—changing from the typical green terrains of Himachal into a barren, dusty cold desert, before completely turning into a blind white snow desert as we approached the top. Navigating landslide-prone areas, active rockfalls, and slippery black ice, we finally made it to the summit just as a fresh snowfall began.
