Suncheon National University and Mokpo National University are facing difficulties in negotiations regarding the establishment of a medical school and university merger. Yesterday (the 21st), Suncheon National University sent an official letter to Mokpo National University proposing a plan to establish a university hospital equipped with clinical and educational functions in Mokpo, while keeping the university headquarters, medical school, and future university hospital in Suncheon. This was understood to be a "counter-proposal" to the compromise plan presented by Min Hyung-bae of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City Transition Committee. Mokpo National University responded with a rejection, stating that the plan is difficult to view as feasible and therefore does not require separate review. Vice presidents and key officials from both universities resumed merger discussions in Boseong on the 20th, but failed to narrow their differences in position, and no schedule for further consultations was set.
