This comes just four days after Mokpo National University accepted a proposal for inter-university discussions made by Suncheon National University, which had rejected the compromise proposal for a unified special city. However, the location and details of the meeting were not disclosed. As both universities are hoping to attract both a medical school and a university hospital simultaneously, reaching an agreement appears difficult. Meanwhile, the deadline for university merger applications has entered the countdown. [Ministry of Education Official/Voice altered: "For the admission of new students in 2030, buildings will be necessary, and considering various overall schedules, that part (university integration) must be sorted out as soon as possible."] Although there is a long way to go, even local public opinion in Suncheon has become divided. When Assemblyman Kim Moon-soo posted messages on social media calling the university a "sinner of history," stating that it "kicked away the opportunity," and demanding an agreement, and hung banners on the streets reading "Suncheon University, Wake Up," Suncheon University faculty, staff, and alumni hung hundreds of banners reading "Suncheon citizens are not fools" and "Let's judge Assemblyman Kim Moon-soo in the next election." The Suncheon University Student Council also issued a statement claiming that the establishment of a medical school is being consumed by political calculations and that it will provoke resistance.
