Eugenia de Montijo: Bicentenario de la emperatriz
📩 Born in Granada in 1826, Eugénie de Montijo followed an extraordinary path to become Empress of the French. In this video, we follow her story from her formative years in Spain to her arrival in Paris, where she won over the future Napoleon III and sealed her fate with the Second Empire. Regent on several occasions, she played an active role in the regime's most delicate political decisions: her defense of the Pope's temporal power amidst the Italian unification, her support for the project of the Mexican Empire with Maximilian of Habsburg, and her position at the key moments leading up to the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. The fall of the Empire forced her to flee to England, where she would live the rest of a long life marked by loss, exile, and the memory of a vanished world. A story of power, diplomacy, and tragedy that extends far beyond the salons of the Second Empire.
