Haim Omer - Convincing parents & teachers to ask for support: a major neglected skill in NVR. All implementations of NVR and The New Authority require support networks. Many practitioners find it hard to help parents or teachers to overcome the privacy barrier and ask for support. In result support networks are often very small or virtually inexistent. The obstacles to the development of a support network are many: the automatic nature of the privacy reflex, feeling that the need of others would show that the parents or teachers are weak, the fear that others will be critical of the parents or the child, the belief that others are too busy to help, a sense of total isolation ("I have nobody"), fears of hurting the child and fears of the child's reactions. The NVR counselor must know and expect those objections so as best to address them. Ways of dealing with the various objections will be systematically detailed, so as to help practitioners overcome those barriers.
