A Calif. Zephyr in Ft. Morgan on 16JULY2026
Today's morning's California Zephyr #5 made its station stop in Fort Morgan at 0656 MDT (1 hr. & 11 Min. late from Chicago). P42s #25 & #79 (wearing Phase VII colors) powered the 10-car consist to a stop with car 9 (coach) to the east platform for service to 2 travelers stepping from the coach. There were no new fares. Two phase VII sleepers were in the train, Sleeping Bear Dunes and Hell's Canyon. I was expecting Utah, but it wasn't in the mix. The 10th car was a deadheading coach headed to the left coast. With the passengers safely on the platform and greeting their puppies, Sam moved from car 9 to car 8 and gave the departure order. On a clear signal, the Zephyr departed for its next stop at Union Station in Denver in its trek to Emeryville by the bay. My thanks to the operating crew for the greetings today.
