Fomapan 100 emulsion defects: Does a pre-wash actually work?
⭐ IN THIS VIDEO!⭐ I'm certainly no stranger to Fomapan Films and especially the 120 line-up. which makes me an expert when it comes to the common defects this film carries on the emulsion. I think I've seen them all! Except on the 35mm range. That always seemed pretty solid. But, will a prewash work? I read that the Anti Halation Dye layered into these films can cause issues with the emulsion if you don't thoroughly wash the film prior to development to remove the green stuff. As it turned out this particular Fomapan 100 120 roll DID have emulsion issues, however, the prewash test wasn't conclusive! my defects didn't wash away! I was shooting scapes with sky detail and these tiny white spot defects (I think some call purple spots) rendered my film useless for making prints. Or at least 10x8 and bigger! And I've had these defects before with the Foma 200. Which is a shame because it's actually a quality film for the price! But who wants to gamble over quality? Not me. So personally I found a prewash a waste of time in this case. My views in this video are only based upon my own experience. It’s entirely possible I’ve just had a run of bad luck or ended up with rolls from various notoriously bad batches over the years. Because of that, I’d never tell anyone to completely steer clear of the 120 range. Give it a bash, grab a few rolls, and see how they work for you!
