19.03.2025 - VN24 - Tier-Transport LKW verliert Rinder bei Unfall auf der Autobahn A1 in Unna

VN24 - 19-03-2025 (D/M/Y) - Unna/Kamen A1 - Germany - At around 12:26 p.m., the 25-year-old driver of an animal transport truck rear-ended a slightly slower-moving truck in front of him on the A1 highway in the northbound direction. The force of the impact pushed the driver's cab backwards a little, but the driver was not injured. The total of twelve loaded cattle on the loading areas were pressed against the end walls by the impact, whereby the end wall in the attached trailer, which is a door for loading through into the truck, came out of its anchorage and two cattle fell out onto the highway in the area of the drawbar. While one cow ran around on the highway almost unharmed, the other cow had to be euthanized by a vet on the spot due to the injuries sustained. The running cattle was managed to be caught by first responders and police officers. The firefighters then built a small stable for this cattle on the highway out of construction fencing that they found at a nearby construction site. The animals were reloaded on the spot into a replacement animal transporter, with the cattle initially running back and forth between the two transporters in an irritated state. A towing company then took care of the removal of the damaged truck, whereby the initially installed so-called “VDZ” towing system had to be converted to the normal towing goggles due to the fact that the steering angle of the front wheels was later found to be too low. The second truck involved was less damaged and was able to continue its journey on its own quite early on.
