Hello everyone! This is the second part of our big journey to Matsushima. Today, we are embarking on the legendary 50-minute cruise on the "Niomaru" ferry through a misty, cloud-covered bay. There are about 260 unique islands in Matsushima! We got some cloudy weather, but it actually gave the bay a mystical atmosphere reminiscent of traditional Japanese ink-wash paintings. I will show you the most famous rock formations: the guardian island Niojima, the bell island Kanejima, and the charming twin islands Futajima, and explain why the Japanese so deeply revere these pines growing on white stones. After our boat ride, we’ll step inside the historic Kanrantei tea house—the "Waveview Pavilion"—to warm up and connect with history. This tea house once belonged to Toyotomi Hideyoshi before being gifted to the Date clan. Sitting on traditional tatami mats, my daughter and I will try ceremonial matcha tea with traditional wagashi sweets against a breathtaking ocean backdrop. And at the very end of the video, we'll take a walk across the famous Oshima, Godaido, and the massive red Fukuurajima bridges, followed by checking into the luxurious Ichinobo resort hotel!
