Hiking to Slieve Bearnagh in the Mourne Mountains, N. Ireland from the Trassey Road Car park Nov 21
Last hike of our one week trip in Nov 2021 and a tough one. Weather promised top be kind to us but alas the clouds came down and it made the high level navigating tough. However, we did get to the top safely, lunched against the wall, and then returned by the most direct route we could find. We parked in the Trassey Road car park and took the path to Hare's Gap and the Mourne Wall. At this stage the visibility was good but all of a sudden it went and we were discussing whether to go on or not. Having been this way before convinced Andrea to go on. So we went through the gate of the wall, and turned right up the steep steps. We knew to keep close to the wall but at the next bit the path took us away from the wall and because of the mist we missed a right turn. However, we got back on track by taking a very steep path and got to the top in very thick mist - visibility was less than 50ft. We returned roughly the same way but hugged the wall a bit tighter. When we reached Hare's Gap, visibility was good again and we enjoyed the walk back to the car. This is probably our last walk of 2021 unless we get a sudden spell of dry warm weather. Happy Christmas to everyone!! #SlieveBearnagh #MourneMountains #TrasseyRoadcarpark
